Houston is located within easy driving distance of the Gulf of Mexico. Most Houstonians drive to Galveston to enjoy the ocean. Galveston Island has many hotels and restaurants and special events through out the year. The weather is nice most all year round, so the swimming season is long.

Houston is also within an easy drive of San Antonio and Mexico. Houstonians drive to Mexico to shop and vacation across the border. There are some great bargains available.

Places to visit while in Houston:

NASA Space Center Houston. Located in Clear Lake, 3 miles east of I-45 on Nasa Rd. 1-800-972-0369.

Shopping around Houston:

Galleria Mall. Westheimer, just west of 610 Loop. Complete with ice skating rink and many fine stores including Texas' own Neiman Marcus.
Heights area. Heights Blvd. and 18th. Great area to find reasonably priced antiques and view old original Houston architecture.
Rice Village. Great shops with very nice merchandise.
Katy Mills Mall. Go west on I-10 and exit Katy. This is the newest discount mall in Houston. It is very large and features many brand name stores.

Places to eat (my own favorites):

Raviola's. On Hwy. 59 feeder at Belford. The best in authentic Italian cuisine and very reasonable.
Ninfa's. Many locations. Very good Mexican.
La Hacienda. 14759 Memorial. Excellent Mexican cuisine and very authentic Mexican.
Wonderful Vegetarian. 7549 Westheimer. It is wonderful vegetarian.
Black Eyed Pea. Many locations. Very good Texas-style home cooking.
Pappa's Barbeque. Several locations. Barbeque, southwestern-style, at it's finest.
Kim Son Restaurant. 7531 Westheimer and several other locations. Chinese - reasonable and very good.
Whole Foods Market. 11145 Westheimer and several other locations. Tasty wholesome health food served cafe style.
